Cardigans, 這個第一個上月球的團(註1), 向來以創作甜美的泡泡糖音樂為特色. 作品在臺灣也被翻唱好多次, 只是翻唱者的版本總是創意不足, 若要論甜美又遠遠不及原作水準.
而且如果你要講翻唱, Cardigans 可是真正的武林高手哦.
在 Carnival 專輯中出現了一首曲子 "Sabbath Bloody
Sabbath" (血腥的安息日). 光看歌名就和這個團很不搭.....像花園裡看到滴血的電鋸...
如果你恰好知道一些古老 70 年代英倫搖滾秘辛, 你可能會發現這是英國
Birminghan 老團 Black Sabbath 的名曲. 這個團樂風黑暗陰森, 半夜裡聽著聽著會讓人莫名奇妙打起哆索,
即使你聽不懂歌詞(或不想聽懂), 再告訴你當年演唱這首曲子的主唱就是那個在記者會一口咬下鴿頭,
演唱會把蝙蝠撕成兩半的 Ozzy Osbourne (註2)
那為什麼一個外型天真甜美的流行團會唱一首黑色宗師的經典名曲? 據吉他手表示, 是向這個名團致敬. 且不管理由為啥, 到底結果這首歌是甜美可人還是天崩地裂哩?
我按下 play, 跳到最後一首 "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath". 出現的旋律如夢境般優美, 晶瑩剔透, 帶著淡淡的憂傷. 中段後的 funky 輕刷帶來加勒比海的海風. 完美的輕爵士/流行佳作. 看看我在後面附上的歌詞, 想像一下用史上最無邪的聲音唱 The people who have crippled you, You want to see them burn.......
聽說死忠的 Sabbath 歌迷跑去錄音室修理了團員一頓.
我很喜歡原版的沉重和陰暗, 可是也對這首新曲愛不釋手. 如果新曲很像原曲,
那我一定棄新保舊.
可是這個新版它太好聽了, 完全在老東西裡變出新生命, 除了給了這首老歌新身份外,
我想, 搞不好 Cardigans 就想證明自己的能力, 可以把地獄唱成天堂.
於是我開始到處放這首歌給我的金屬朋友們聽, 大家都昏倒......這個團太厲害了......
所以如果你沒聽過這個團, 趕快去找來聽. 他們"修理"過的曲子還有 Black Sabbath
的 Iron man, Ozzy Osbourne
的 Mr. Crowley, Thin Lizzy 的 The Boys are Back in Town. 全部變天,
讓你嗅不出原曲的味道.
